Decorating in February has always been a challenge for me. By this time of the year I am weary of winter! And so ready for spring!! Sound familiar?
The Christmas to winter decor transition, so welcome in January, feels stale come February. But technically it’s still winter. So I still have my winter decor up. But now I’ve added in some simple valentine decor.
I’m sharing it with you before it all goes away. Cos then I’m gonna dip my toes into some cozy minimalist decor ideas. But that’s for another post.

My living room mantle decor has pretty much been up since December. Well the garland, twinkling lights, candles, and pine cones. I did make some small changes. After Christmas I removed all of the red and added some small white bottle brush trees that had been displayed on a console table elsewhere. Truthfully, I was kinda lazy and didn’t feel like packing them away…and they seemed wintry so there you go.

Then for February I switched out the bottle brush trees (which are still waiting to be put away…ugh!!!) for these cute little wooden heart place card holders I found at Target. They were plain wood but I painted them pink.
A quick coat of paint and my mantle is ready for Valentine’s Day. Three hearts…one for each grandchild. LOVE them!!! The grandkids! But the wooden hearts are adorable too.

After Christmas, I put some leftover random greenery sprigs and pine cones into a basket and added a candle for my winter decor. Sprinkling a few leftover foam hearts from another project and all set for February. Simple!

This blue vase has been hanging around since Christmas. I switched out the greenery for the white stems for a more wintry look in January. I found this cute little wooden heart at TJ Maxx to add some simple valentine decor. Later it can be used as decor in other places around the house too. Did I mention that I dislike packing away holiday decor?!?

No matter what the season, pillows and throws are MUST HAVE decor items. Well, at least for me! I absolutely love them!! I’m still using the faux fur pillows and throws from January.
The faux fur, velvet, and sherpa fabrics all ramp up the cuddle factor… perfect for winter evenings!! I sewed some pillow covers with hearts to add a touch of simple valentine decor.
I love to sew pillow covers. They are an easy and affordable way to change up your decor. And the best part?!? NO pillows to have to find a place to pack away and store!! I just fold the covers when I’m done and place in a drawer. Easy peasy!

Anyhow, back to the pillows. The hearts on these pillow covers are made from old sweaters!! Yep.
This clever idea came from Angela over at Simply Beautiful By Angela. I fell in love with her neutral DIY Valentine’s Day Pillow Covers Using Sweaters. I quickly pinned it to Pinterest. Then promptly made some myself. Only not in neutral but with some pops of pink. That’s how inspired I was. Need a tutorial for making them yourself? Check out her post above for directions.

I was feeling a little crafty so I made a simple DIY Valentine heart banner for my fireplace in the keeping room.

Earlier in February the Girl Scouts were selling their cookies. And there’s nothing like Girl Scout cookies and coffee on a cold winter day. Heck, on ANY day!! Thin mints are a favorite. Yours too?

Another simple idea for adding valentine decor is free printables. I LOVE free printable art!! This valentine art came from Allyson over at Southern Sunflowers. Hop over to her blog and grab your free Valentine’s Day printable. She also has another design as well.
So just by adding a few simple touches of valentine decor I get that “change” I really need. My winter decor now has an updated look and feel… and doesn’t quite seem like it’s overstaying its welcome. While I get ready to embrace the spring. And explore some cozy minimalist ideas.
How do you decorate your home in February?
