My guest room is finally coming together. Slooooowly. It’s only been a year and a half since we moved in. With so many other things on my to do list the guest room was just not a high priority.
I had a bed for guests (except for my first guest, who had to sleep on an air mattress…sorry son) but that was about it.
This room is most definitely being done on a budget. And a little bit at a time. My goal is to have it done (mostly) by late summer when a good friend comes to visit.
So bed…check. Curtains…check. Repainted dresser…check.
Now nightstands. I just could not justify the expense of new nightstands. Especially for a room that will get used by guests only occasionally. I searched for 2 used nightstands in decent shape. I wanted something I could use as is. Or something I could paint…but no such luck.

Then one day I noticed the two little nightstands I had placed upstairs in the grandkids’ room. A light bulb moment! I can use these!! I’ve had these nightstands for years. Their shape and size made them perfect for using as an accent in small areas around the house. They were both originally blue but as you can see one has been painted before. Twice actually.
Cha ching!!! Cost free!!!! Can’t get better than that.
So I had myself a DIY nightstand makeover project lined up.
The paint I used for the nightstands was left over from a desk I redid earlier in the year. So even that was free. And the color was perfect. I’m going for a cool coastal sorta vibe in the guest room.

Ahh the magic of paint!!! With a little sanding, a couple coats of paint and a few hours the transformation is complete.

The paint color is Sherwin Williams HGTV Drizzling Rain mixed in Valspar paint- a nice soft aqua color.
I lined the drawers with some scrapbook paper I found in my stash. Just adds a nice little pop of color.

And here they are ….all ready for guests.

(See honey this is why we shoved these little nightstands into the POD and moved them 1000 miles with us)
So the only cost for this DIY nightstand makeover was for new drawer knobs. Which were just a few dollars at Lowes. This is the kind of project I love!! Low cost, big impact.
A few more things to finish up and then I’ll show you the finished guest room. Completed just in time for summer visitors. I hope :).
