The guest room is FINALLY done!! Whoo hoo! Well mostly. There are a few more smaller projects I’d like to do. But hey I’m counting it D.O.N.E. I’m excited about sharing my calming coastal guest room with you. So let the room reveal begin.
We moved into our house 18 months ago. But there were so many things that we needed to do and finishing the guest room was just not a priority. Even though it really only needed some furniture and decorating. When a good friend planned to visit me in the summer my motivation mo-jo kicked in to get ‘er done.
I wanted a room that felt calm and soothing. With a coastal vibe without being too “beachy”. And it had to be budget friendly. Which meant some DIY projects and makeovers. And here it is….
My calming coastal guest room.
This IKEA dresser was my first DIY project. My daughter was getting rid of it and I said I’ll take it. It was a bright orange but I repainted it in white and aqua tones. You can read all about that adventure here. And my color scheme for the room was decided.
These little nightstands were another DIY paint project. You can see the before and after in this post here. I’ve had them a long time so the cost for these was free. I fell in love with these lamps when I saw them in Marshalls. I just love the aqua glass. And only $30 each. Sold!
The Queen bed was the largest expense for this room. But what’s a guest room with out a guest bed right? I found the simple white arched headboard on Walmart.com of all places. The lightweight aqua quilt and white shams came from Home Goods. I added a white dust ruffle I got at Kohls. I sewed the envelope style pillow covers myself. Easy to do and easy to change up when I want to.
The pictures above the bed will probably not stay. They came from my previous house and were a “little piece of home”. I loved these pictures in my old family room. And I’ve been reluctant to let them go. Yes, I know they don’t really go with my coastal theme. But this is where they ended up. For now. Until I feel ready to release them. And that’s okay!
This room has 9 foot ceilings so I needed some really long curtains. These are 96″ long. I wish they were a little bit longer but are fine for now. I found these at the At Home store. Are you sensing a color theme yet lol?
I use this room ALL the time now!! It gets the most wonderful morning light which is perfect for working on my jigsaw puzzles. And I always have a puzzle in progress! So this room looks like this more often than not.
It’s also a great place to curl up with a good book to read. Or take a little nap. So I am enjoying it as much as my guests do.
There are still a few more changes I want to make to this room. I’d like a new mirror above the dresser. That will be next on my list. If you have any suggestions for what kind, please leave them in the comments below. Your input is greatly appreciated.
I would really like a chair for the corner of the room too, something small that doesn’t take up much room. I have some ideas about how I might re-purpose an accent chair I already have.
And someday I’d like to add crown molding to the room to match the rest of the first floor. I can picture my husband rolling his eyes at this.
But for today I’m gonna go curl up with my book and read a couple of chapters. In my new calming, coastal guest room.
Pin this Calming Coastal Guest Room for later!
